Alexander Sheldon-Smith, Esq. Attorney

Alex Sheldon-Smith is an Attorney at Alan B. Cooper & Associates, PLLC. He concentrates his practice in the area of domestic relations handling all issues related to divorce, child custody, parenting time, and child support.

After obtaining extensive Family Law experience in the Family Law department of a large Troy law firm, as well as another firm in Canton, Alex joined Alan B. Cooper and Associates so that he could focus more exclusively on representing people in their time of need. His experience in this area established him as being well-known and respected among the Family Law Judges and Friend of the Court Referees. Alex commits himself daily to better guide clients through the most emotional and financially challenging times that these cases present.

He is active in his community and is a member of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the Shamrock Bar Association (lawyers affiliated with Detroit Catholic Central High School). Additionally, Mr. Sheldon-Smith is an Executive Council member of the Young Lawyers Section for the State Bar of Michigan, an Associate Member of the Oakland County Inns of Court, and a Director of the Oakland County New Lawyer Committee.

Alex graduated Cum Laude from Michigan State University College of Law, where he was a Dean’s List Scholar. He obtained Jurisprudence Awards for earning the highest grade in Matrimonial Practice, Family Law: Marriage and Divorce, Mortgages, and Estate and Future Interest Drafting Seminar. While at Michigan State, Alex was a Negotiations Teaching Assistant and an Oralist for the Shapero Moot Court Team. Alex is the coach of Michigan State’s Moot Court team and a volunteer to hear practice oral arguments from Michigan State competition teams.
